I have a very limited quantity available.
Chiba is a shy bulbil producer, which is perfect for anyone who wants to plant this species but is concerned about it spreading. Chiba has low vigor and can take a couple years to get going, but has exceptional tubers. Where most Dioscorea polystachya available are male, Chiba is female, so it can produce seed if there is a male to pollinate. Although in previous attempts it has made weak seedlings, so it may not be an ideal female parent for breeding. I produced seed in 2025 and will grow them out to see for myself.
TsukuneImo is a variety of Dioscorea polystachya with rounded 'dumpling' shaped tubers. Dioscorea polystachya tubers typically grow straight and deep into the soil, along with their brittle roots it can be difficult to harvest the tubers, requiring the excavation of a large hole. TsukuneImo varieties make harvest easier.
Bulbils are clones, making them a great way to propagate these plants. Plant bulbils in deep loose soil for the best chance of the improved Tsukune Imo shape developing.
