I prefer to grow seedling pawpaws. Grafted pawpaws reportedly last only a few decades before the graft fails. In the end, we are left with the rootstock, which forms a colony of root suckers. By growing pawpaws from seeds collected from grafted orchards containing great cultivars, we have the highest chance of seedlings with improved fruit quality. At a later date, these seedlings can be grafted with a desired cultivar, knowing that root suckers will still contain improved genetics.
