SCIENTIFIC NAME: Maclura tricuspidata syn. Cudrania tricuspidata
COMMON NAME: Che, Mandarin Melon Berry, Chinese Melonberry
The seed to produce these seedlings came from fruits harvested at England's Orchard in Kentucky. I presume it is the most genetically diverse Che fruit planting in the US, containing many less common cultivars. This is the best seed I know of to discover new improved cultivars of Che fruit. Each seedling will be genetically unique. Che fruit is dioecious, so plants will be either male or female. Plant multiple seedlings to increase the chance that one is female.
Trees were started in the spring of 2026 in 7" tall root pruning tree pots and are about 1-2 feet tall.
